Corrugated cardboard for production packing

Corrugated cardboard for production packing, made of 100% kraft-cellulose is intended for packing production, retail and transport containers (boxes, trays, etc.), including boxes intended to contact with foodstuff which humidity exceeds 15%, and also for supportive packing applications production (inserts, lattices, feedwells, laying, shock-absorbers) etc.

Key parameters and sizes (in accordance with GOST P 52901-2007)

Corrugated cardboard is made of the following types (depend on layers number):

  • T three-layer consists of two flat and one corrugated layers;
  • P five-layer consists of three flat (two external and one internal) and two corrugated layers.

We produce corrugated cardboard of T22, T23, T24, T25, T26, T27 brands, 2 class, and P32, P33 brands, 3 class.

Corrugated cardboard is manufactured in sheets with E, B, C corrugation. The sizes of the sheets are established in coordination with the consumer.

Packing and marking

Packing and marking of a cardboard is performed in accordance with 52901-2007 GOST P, section 5, items 5.3; 5.4.

Packing. Cardboard sheets are stacked in a pile. The label is fixed on the piles top leaf.

Marking. Piles marking has to contain:

  • country manufacturer name; organization - manufacturer name and enterprise trademark;
  • organization manufacturer legal address;
  • product name, brand, corrugation type (or production symbol);
  • standard designation;
  • production date (month, year);
  • sizes and number of sheets;
  • goods consignment number;
  • Handling instructions "Protect from moisture", "Do not hook".

Transportation and storage

Transportation and storage are performed in accordance with 7691 GOST.

Cardboard is transported by all pure, dry, covered vehicle types, according to goods transportation rules for the corresponding transport type.

The cardboard must be stored in horizontal position in the covered rooms protected from atmospheric precipitation and soil moisture, allowed air humidity is 40% - 80%.

Storage conditions

Warehouse relative air humidity is of a great importance. Corrugated cardboard humidity increase together with the relative air humidity, and its strength properties decrease.

Resistance to face compression along corrugations is the most significant property at the squeezing loadings. Cardboard humidity increases from 8-9% up to 13-14% leads to 50% of face compression resistance decrease, and when humidity reaches 18-20% cardboard practically loses strength properties and becomes unsuitable for use.

Ideally corrugated cardboard humidity must be around 10% (in accordance with P 52901-2007 GOST), 12% are allowed.

Corrugated cardboard must be maintained in the production room for 4-6 hours before use.
Provided recommendations are necessary to eliminate the problems connected with corrugated cardboard strength properties decrease.

Geometrical sizes.

choice is determined by:

  • GOST, Specifications, industrial standards, etc.;
  • market requirements;
  • inside box logistics, there shouldnt be any cavities inside of the box, otherwise the loads would be distributed unevenly, which results in box deformation and destruction while stacking-up

While ordering corrugated cardboard boxes which presuppose components for a complete set according to the standard documentation do not reject the last ones.

Corrugated cardboard brand for production packing (in accordance with P 52901-2007 GOST) is chosen proceeding from packed production weight, stack height and the geometrical sizes. Detailed calculations of cardboard brand are given in 9142 GOST "Boxes from corrugated cardboard. General specifications" items 2.3.

Storage conditions

Even a magnificent corrugated cardboard box can be easily put out of commission at storage.
Warehouse relative air humidity has a great impact on durability. Corrugated cardboard humidity increases together with relative air humidity, and its strength properties decrease.

Resistance to face compression along corrugations is the most significant property at the squeezing loadings. Cardboard humidity increases from 8-9% up to 13-14% leads to 50% of face compression resistance decrease, and when humidity reaches 18-20% cardboard practically loses strength properties and becomes unsuitable for use.

Researches have shown that a stack of full corrugated cardboard boxes (T-24 brand), kept at 100% relative air humidity destroys within a day and the cardboard brand decreases up to T-21.

Ideally corrugated cardboard humidity must be around 10% (in accordance with P 52901-2007 GOST), 12% are allowed.

5.3a. Boxes and supportive packing applications are stored in the enclosed rooms protected from atmospheric precipitation and soil moisture. Storage conditions from-14 ? up to + 40 ? and relative air humidity 25-70%;

6.1a. Before to use boxes and supportive packing applications they have to be maintained in the production room for 4-6 hours.

User guide

Boxes with the packed production must be corked. Boxes corking is performed by pasting a glue tape according to 9142 GOST Appendix 6. Other types of production corking are allowed. According to GOST 9142 " Corrugated cardboard boxes. General specifications" item 6.2: "Boxes with the packed production are stockpiled without any shift".
To except boxes shift and deformation in a stack it is recommended to interleave each row with the corrugated cardboard sheets or other materials ensuring boxes transportation and storage safety.

When determining optimum stacking height it is necessary to pay attention to maximum load stacking indicator, specified in the production quality certificate.

OJCS Selenginsky pulp and cardboard mill laboratory is certified to test corrugated cardboard and tare. The certificate on measurements condition, granted by Technical Regulation and Metrology Federal Agency (Rosstandart), "The State Regional Center of Standardization, Metrology and Tests in the Republic of Buryatia" Federal State-Funded Institution (FSI "Buryat MS") No. 52-15, issued June 11, 2015, certifies that the laboratory has necessary conditions for reliable quality control of the container production shop.

Corrugated cardboard boxes are manufactured in accordance with 9142 GOST, 13511 GOST, P 54463-2011 GOST, have regulatory documents compliance declaration: the declaration on compliance to Specifications No. RU D-RU.AYa62.B.01259, validity period from 29.09.2015 to 28.09.2020.

Choosing packing it is necessary to remember:
  • identical strength characteristics indicators of cardboard packing made of 100% cellulose and a waste cardboard don't presuppose these products consumer properties identity;
  • waste raw materials reduce cardboard cost, but lead to rigidity of material reduction (short raw materials fibers reduce strength characteristics indicators of a waste cardboard unlike higher property values of a cardboard with a basis from longer primary fibers). At the identical density, waste cardboards are 20-30% less rigid, then primary fibers cardboards;
  • waste cardboard isn't allowed for foodstuff packing, when it directly contacts it.

Microbiological tests results verify high microorganisms development extent on a waste cardboard. Compounds which are a part of typographical paint in waste paper are the nutrient medium for bacteria.

Corrugated cardboard and corrugated cardboard boxes produced by OJCS Selenginsky pulp and cardboard mill, are produced of 100% kraft-cellulose, conform sanitary, epidemiologic and hygienic requirements to the goods which are subject to sanitary and epidemiological control. Production has undergone the state registration and is allowed for production and realization and food products packing: state registration certificate No. RU.03.BTs.06.019.E.000017.06.11 issued 6/22/2011 on corrugated cardboard boxes, issued by Department of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare of the Republic of Buryatia.

Kraft-cellulose high barrier properties, unlike waste raw materials cardboard, allow to use this type of cardboard to pack frozen products and moisture containing products.

KS brand of kraft-cellulose linerboard corresponds 5441-027-00279611-2016 specifications, 1 sq.m cardboard mass is 100-200 g; K brand 1 sq.m cardboard mass is 100-200 g;

The defining strength indicators of cardboard quality by 5441-027-00279611-2016 specifications:

  • absolute resistance to breakdown, kPa (kgf/cm2);
  • the destroying effort of ring compression in the cross direction, N.

Important cardboard quality indicators are the weight of 1 m2(g), thickness (mm), superficial water absorbency at unilateral wetting (Kobb60) of the top party (g/m2), humidity (%).

Above-mentioned indicators of kraft-cellulose linerboard quality for a certain production brand are specified in the charts 1, 2, 5441-027-00279611-2016 specifications and are defined by checking department laboratory and researches laboratory (Quality Department).

Each unloaded cardboard machine production is examined on all normative document indicators on certified and confided laboratory equipment. Each rolls 1 sq.m mass is determined.

The certificate on measurements condition, granted by Technical Regulation and Metrology Federal Agency (Rosstandart), "The State Regional Center of Standardization, Metrology and Tests in the Republic of Buryatia" Federal State-Funded Institution (FSI "Buryat MS") No. 52-15, issued June 11, 2015, certifies that the laboratory has necessary conditions for reliable quality control of the container production shop.

When carrying out entrance control of the acquired cardboard, the consumer must use the certified equipment and test methods specified in TU 5441-027-00279611-2016 to get tests reproducibility.

Cardboard marking, packing, transportation and storage is carried out according to requirements of 7691 GOST. Consumers must pay attention to this normative document at acquired cardboard transportation and storage.

Choosing cardboard for production packing it is necessary to remember:

Coated cardboard in rolls and sheets is produced according to 5441-079-00279611-2001 specifications, amendments No. 1, 2:

  • KMD brands, coated linerboard, weight 125, 140, 150, 160, 175, 185, 210, 235, 250, 270, 290 g. of 1 sq.m2;
  • KMD brands, bilateral coated cardboard weight 185, 270, 290, 320, 350 g of 1 sq.m2;
  • KMDO brands, bilateral painted coated linerboard weighing 290, 320, 350 g of 1 sq.m2.
Cake boxes correspond to 12301 GOST, 5480-111-00279611-2004 specifications, 12301 GOST type 1-14, 5480-112-00279611-2004 GOST 12301 type 1-8.

Pizza boxes correspond to 12301 GOST and 5480-129-00279611-2007 specifications to 12301 GOST

Egg trays correspond to 5480-110-00279611-2004 specifications.

Coated cardboard is a raw material for retail container production and for linerboard with the subsequent production of transport and retail tare.

The defining indicator of cardboard quality is the whiteness (%), 5441-079-00279611 - 2001 specifications.
Coated linerboard important indicators the 1 sq.m weight(g), thickness (mm), humidity (%), smoothness (c).

Above-mentioned quality indicators of coated cardboard are reflected in the charts No. 1, 2 of 5441-079-00279611-2001 specifications, am. No. 2.

Bilateral coated cardboard of KDM 290-350 brand is used for cake boxes, pizza boxes, egg trays production, the bottoms are manufactured of corrugated cardboard, 52901-2007 P GOST.

Finished goods quality control is performed by coated tare shop technological personnel which is certified to carry out self-checking and has a personal brand according to the standard documentation approved in STP SK-23-021-2005 "SMK, Requirements to finished goods self-checking procedure in the shop of a coated tare (with am. no. 1, 1/22/2007), Coated tare shop self-checking order Instruction.

Initial raw materials tests, technological process parameters control, finished goods quality control are carried out on the indicators provided by coated cardboard production control card and products from it, according to standard documentation on a method of carrying out tests.

Finished goods are accepted and marked according to production standard documentation.

In addition, each finished goods roll is branded by the tour which has worked out the party. A quality seal is attached on each coated cardboard group packing label, on the pile label, quality pass, sent to the customer.

Quality Department laboratory selectively controls finished goods on all quality indicators at least two times a month.

When carrying out entrance control of the acquired cardboard, the consumer must use the certified equipment and test methods specified in TU 5441-027-00279611-2016 to get tests reproducibility.

If there are the problems with flexographic colors on a water basis plotting on a coated cardboard it is necessary to consider that alcohol ethyl is the accelerator of drying. A small amount of alcohol accelerator up to 8-10%, the faster the sealed material imbibes water the less is the need to use the accelerator.

Our cardboard has the neutral surface reaction, differing in the increased smoothness and the lowered ability to water absorption that changes applied paints working viscosity requirements.

Optimum viscosity is 16 - 18 seconds (viscometer, dyne, 4 mm), it is recommended to begin paints dilution with 5-10% of attenuator varnish addition (the same paint brand)

It is especially urgent at high initial viscosity of the received paints, which need to be reduced a lot to reach press viscosity. It leads to pigment/polymer correlation violation and at a strong paints dilution the color prints tone doesn't change.

At dilution of initial paint without introduction of a varnish more than 50% water, emergence of foam in colorful system is possible.

Coated cardboard marking, packing, transportation and storage is carried out according to GOST 7691.

Customers should pay attention to this regulatory document at acquired cardboard storage. Coated cardboard must be stored in the closed warehouses protected from atmospheric precipitation and soil moisture, far away from direct sunshine. Cardboard warranty storage period is 2 years from the production date at observance of service conditions, transportation and storage.

Before to be used, the cardboard must undergo three days of acclimatization within the conditions of further processing.

Cake boxes marking is carried out according to 12301 GOST and 14192 GOST, transportation and storage in accordance with 12301 GOST and 15150 GOST. Pizza boxes and quail eggs trays marking is carried out in accordance with 14192 GOST. Pizza and cake boxes, egg trays are transported boxes in piles in all types of covered vehicles. Piles in vehicles has to be dense and exclude the shift and deformation. |Pizza boxes and quail egg trays are kept in a stack not more than 2,5 m high, in the covered warehouse, not less then1 m away from heating devices. The distance between a stack and a warehouse floor must be not less than 100 mm.
